Position Description

The mission of the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences is the development of professional health care practitioners through innovation, individualized, and quality classroom, clinical, and distance education.

General Summary

Under the supervision of the Campus Librarian, responsible for library management, including but not limited to: acquisition; cataloging; circulation procedures and policies; inventory and purchasing; technological support including computers, printers and 3D Printers; desk coverage; and supervision of student workers. The Assistant Librarian also supports the Campus Librarian with reference duties on desk and online; inter-library loan requests, online chat, and library instruction, as needed. Knowledgeable with Library Information Systems.

Note: this position requires regular weekend hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Patron Services

  • Assist students and faculty with locating, checking in / checking, out and renewing library materials.
  • Support and train faculty and students on usage of library technologies, including 3D Printer, and Virtual Reality.
  • Serve as a point of communication between the Library and the University, and students and faculty on the weekends.
  • Assist with online chat.
  • Process inter- and intra-library loan requests.
  • Proctor individual student exams in the library as requested according to the Library Proctoring Policy.
  • Maintain and supervise borrower records in library information management system.
  • Gather data, compile, and maintain monthly statistics.

Inventory, Purchasing, Cataloging, and Equipment Support

  • Maintain, operate, support, and troubleshoot library technology such as printers, copiers, 3-D printers, computers, and other technologies.
  • Process, withdraw and repair collection items.
  • Assist with cataloging library materials and course reserve materials.
  • Supervise the shelving of books and special materials collections, locating missing items and identifying need for replacement.
  • Order supplies for the department, process requisitions forms, follow up on backorders.
  • Maintain all library technology and equipment, including annual inventory.
  • Record and process incoming serials, special materials, and other items as needed.

Library Coverage and Maintenance of Library Space

  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise student library workers.
  • Uphold and enforce official library policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the library book and special materials display and library promotional and marketing materials.
  • Support and assist the Campus Librarian, including maintaining sole responsibility of the library and all Librarian duties when the Librarian is absent.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Education and/or Experience

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Preferred: one or more years of experience in a library setting

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for six to eight hours daily and includes physical demands associated with a traditional office setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions as necessary.

Hiring Range $20.19 – $26.35

Compensation is a reasonable estimate and will be determined using the hiring range listed above and factors including, but not limited to, skillset, level of experience, education, and physical work location, to the extent consistent with applicable law.
